This institute-level course is designed for those have identified their immigrant ancestor's hometown in Galicia (Königreich Galizien), an Austro-Hungarian Empire crownland, and are seeking in-depth instruction on Empire’s history and genealogically relevant record groups beyond birth, marriage, and death records. Instruction will be given on record types which can be used for not only Polish and Ukrainian, but German and Jewish ancestry.
There will be hands-on exercises in class and optional homework assignments to help you gain experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to (re)construct the historical context for their ancestral village/town using many sources like gazetteers and historical maps as well as a mapping exercise using Google Earth.
The course will be held on four (4) consecutive days beginning at 10am ET via Zoom. Each day will consist of four (4) 75-minute classes conducted in English. For a full schedule, see the Course Preparation & Information section.
Each presentation will be recorded and recordings will be made available for thirty (30) days after the final presentation date.
It is recommended you join this workshop from a computer, not a mobile device (phone/tablet). Multiple monitors would enhance your participation in this course, but are not required.
